Philip R. Cousin A.M.E. Church is a new church plant that was started from a Bible Study that was organized by the Reverend Barbara A. Ross and her three sons, Tommy, Thomas, and Timothy. The Annual conference granted the permission to organize a new church in the A.M.E. organization with the approval of the Presiding Bishop.
Bishop Philip R. Cousin, Sr, admitted the church into the Chicago Annual Conference. The Church was named Philip R. Cousin A.M.E. Church after Bishop Philip R. Cousin, Sr., the Presiding Prelate of the 4th Episcopal District. The Reverend Barbara A. Ross was appointed the pastor of this new church by Bishop Philip R. Cousin, Sr.
It was then that the work of building the church and equipping the saints begun. The church's worship services were held in a numbers of locations before Pastor Barbara A. Ross received a vision in a dream from the Lord to relocate the church to its present location in Naperville, Illinois.
The church has been properly incorporated by the State of Illinois office of the Secretary of State. The church has also received its Sales Tax Exemption Status by the Illinois Department of Revenue.
"This is the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes."
